By Serge Hamad & Sepideh Vahidi
Cafe Nadery is pleased to announce the opening of our July Exhibition, Synergy, an elaborate collaboration between artists Serge Hamad and Sepideh Vahidi, on Saturday July 11th from 6-9pm. The exhibition runs till Friday, July 31st.
While Serge and Sepideh have never met, it is as if they have been unknowingly creating work for each other. In one word, synergy brought them together to create fantastical worlds, utterly unique to their collaboration. Each piece creates its own world, providing a space for the audience to wander away from their realities and dream once again! Hamad, renowned French-Algerian visual artist and photographer, has taken visionary photos of his surroundings. Vahidi, a well- known Iranian Artist-Singer drew scenes of her everyday life upon them. Through his unique vision, Hamad found the precise scenes in which Vahidi’s drawings could live and absorb us in their spectacle. Hamad, has created a diverse body of photographic and graphic art work exploring a range of subject matters, from Human Rights to figure studies, and his recent abstract photographs portraying distilled images of his surroundings. His documentary work has focused on poverty, war crimes, censorship, and discrimination. He has exhibited extensively in the USA and internationally as part of solo and group exhibitions. He is well recognized for his series, Take a Stand, a poignant series of portraits reflecting on Iranian prisoners, women’s issues, and LGBT rights. Vahidi studied Persian folklore and traditional Persian music under the direction of the finest masters of this art. She received her BFA from the University of Michigan. Both in her musical and visual artwork, she folds and unfolds, twists and turns both notes and forms to express emotions of joy, loss, pain, grief, hope, woven through personal narratives.
